Underneath the arena

Slightly outside the city center but only a short walk away from the Kaiserthermen of Trier you can discover the ancient Roman Amphitheater. The arena is well-preserved and it is easy to image where the visitors were seated and how the ‘games’ happened.

You can walk through the chambers at the side and best of all you can climb down and discover the water-filled place underneath the stage. How advanced technology was already back then! The Amphitheater was built in the year 100 CE and is today the tenth largest preserved Roman arena in the world. If you don’t walk up the short hill: there is also a bus line going up.
