Close to Λάρνακα you can find a large salt lake. During some months it is completely empty and you can walk on the salt (which was exported in former times) like in a moon-like landscape. In other times the lake is filled with water and gives a home to pink flamingos. You can walk around the lake on a nice path with many picnic areas.
On one side of the lake, you can find the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque. It is named after Hala Sultan who was an aunt of prophet Mohammed. She died at this place making the mosque important for muslims. If you want to get to the salt lake by car: there is a large parking area in the direction of the airport. The way is clearly signaled at the roundabout.
