If you like to stay in the city center near the interesting places of Madrid, Spain then the Hotel Ópera might be an option. It is located directly next to the opera and is therefore only few meters away from the Palacio Real and the beautiful garden in front of it. The hotel is labeled as a four star hotel but feels rather like three stars – but that is okay, the fourth star is for location.
Within the hotel there is also a restaurant with outdoor seats towards the opera. Here you can also have a ‘welcome drink’. Breakfast is served in another place of the hotel and when having it you again realize that breakfast is nothing the Spanish take serious. For them a coffee and a croissant are sufficient – or for sure chocolate con churros (fried dough you can dip into chocolate). As breakfast wasn’t included in my booking I had to get a breakfast voucher every morning at the reception. That felt a bit odd.
The geographically best metro stop to access the hotel would be Ópera (red and green line) – but my smartphone apps never sent me there. Try to avoid the stop Plaza de España (dark blue and yellow lines) because it is a longer walk upward through narrow streets. The better stop is Callao (green and yellow line) which gives you comfortable access to the hotel.
