The Zeitgeist

I was at London, United Kingdom during the football world championship and the next match was England vs. Colombia. A not so nice match that ended with a historical event: England won a penalty shoot-out for the first time ever. And of course I had to find a pub to watch the match.

As I wanted to be sure to find a place without being there in advance for hours I selected a German pub at Lambeth – the Zeitgeist. The facade still says ‘The Jolly Gardeners‘ so don’t be confused. It is a nice big pub with a small improvised outdoor section.

It is a bit strange to drink German beer in London but the atmosphere was great! I couldn’t keep myself from singing Baddiel and SkinnersThree Lions’ with the crowd. And even as I am no big fan of national anthems I must admit that I had goose bumps while the guys and girls where chanting ‘God save the queen‘. I love watching football abroad!

If you want to get there take the Victoria line to Vauxhall or the Bakerloo line to Lambeth North. The pub is located in the middle between the two stations – so it is an easy fifteen minutes walk from each of them.
