No strings attached

The Theater der Nacht (“theatre of the night”) is a puppet theatre in Northeim, Germany. It has its special atmosphere as it is located within an old fire station which received a magical appearance. Every detail in the building and especially in the fire hose drying tower is well designed. The theatre does plays for children and for adults and has to be booked in advance – only 99 seats are available.

In 1999 a touring theatre discovered the old fire station in Northeim and decided to settle here. They needed two years to rebuild the house; the opening was in 2001. It is now operated by a private foundation and does not receive money from the state. We came here for a wonderful show of Momo by Michael Ende. I enjoyed the nice building, the auditorium with the starry roof and the different ways they tell stories within a play.

Don’t worry if the service at the coffee shop is quite slow – the wait with continuing the show until everybody has something to dring. You can easily reach the theatre by car, enough parking lots are available. But you can also get there by train – it’s a 20 minutes walk, as the theatre is in the east end of the city center, close to the former city fortifications.
