While for most travel destinations you get good books in German or English from companies like Baedeker, Marco Polo or lonely planet, the variety goes down when looking at eastern Europe. One might even say that there is no choice.
But that doesn’t matter, because the Trescher Verlag from Berlin covers the whole region and their books are good quality: introducing the reader into the country and its history, supplying substantial information about sights without marking highlights with stars and best, always showing nice footpaths through cities.
Meanwhile I had a lot of tourist guides from Trescher and I can recommend them without restriction. And while I’m already at showing my appreciation: whenever Falk & friends leave me in the dark, freytag & berndt from Vienna supply me with road and city maps. Keep up the good work, guys!
