Panamericana, te amo

The Panamericana – or short Panam – is a network of roads going down from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. You can cross the whole continent on this 25.000 km long route, you can see wonderful landscapes and visit up to 19 countries. The plans to create the Carretera Panamericana were agreed on in 1936; only a small part of 90 km length next to Panama is still missing (even 80 years later).

Going the Panam down from north to south is a big dream for me, maybe once I’ll have the time for it. While being in Chile the Panamericana was a safe harbour for me different times. If you are away from the civilization and in need for gasoline? Panamericana! If you are late and still need to drive in the dark? Panamericana! By the way: did you know that in the 1950s the actor Bud Spencer worked on the Panam for two years?
