Aeropuerto Internacional Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez (SCL)

The international airport of Santiago de Chile is the most important airport of Chile. Is named after Arturo Merino Benítez, the first commander of the Chilean air force and the founder of the civil LAN airline. It was opened in 1967 and is an important hub in South America.

As often airports in this region require long waiting times in front of passport control and baggage check. I was about to miss my flight back to Frankfurt am Main – even as I had a connecting flight from Puerto Montt I had to go through full security check and arrived at the plan really at last minute.

On arrival I had booked but forgotten that I driver takes me to my hotel. That’s why I can say something about public transport. 🙂 In front of the airport cheap busses bring you to the city, but not to the city center. There are some metro stations where you can get off. Using the metro in Santiago de Chile is pretty easy; but you should at least have checked your target station.
