In 2011 I started a road trip with two friends to explore some art in the Ruhrgebiet – the section in the west of Germany formerly producing coal and steel; the one which was hit hard by the structural change of the industry and which therefore hat to change pretty much.
We first went to Bochum and wanted to stay at the flat of the parents of a friend but found out that the key didn’t fit anymore. What a surprise; but getting back home wasn’t an option – therefore we called some friends at Düsseldorf who made their couch ready.
We then went with them to see the Museum Folkwang in Essen which is a always good for an art exhibition. Next day we continued to Dortmund and walked through the city center which I never saw before and had a visit to the Museum Ostwall within the Dortmunder U.
