St. Georg monument, Berlin

Monument at the Spree river.
Berlin, Germany.

The St. George monument by the Spree in Berlin is an imposing bronze statue created by the sculptor August Kiss in the mid-19th century, depicting the legendary saint on horseback valiantly slaying a dragon. Originally crafted for the courtyard of the Berlin City Palace, the statue now stands in a prominent position in the historic Nikolaiviertel, facing the Spree river and the oldest church in the city, St Nicholas’ Church. Its dynamic, neobaroque design and storied history make it one of the most photographed and admired monuments in Berlin’s city centre.
