The patron saint of Kotor, Montenegro is Tryphon – a martyr worshiped by catholic and orthodox christians who is said to have the ability to cure illnesses. Therefore the main church of the city is named after him, the Katedrala Svetog Tripuna.
The first small church at this place dates back to the year 809 CE and it is said that it was created after a trader brought the remains of saint Tryphon to the city from Constantinople (todays Istanbul, Turkey). In 1166 the cathedral in its current form was finished.
