If you read the tales written by Astrid Lindgren as a child then this theme park at Vimmerby, Sweden is a paradise for you. For every story there is an area that looks like the scenery for it. Half of the time scenes are staged and the rest of the time you can explore the stage and meet your favorite characters in person.
It is all there: the Villa Villekulla of Pippi Longstocking, the Katthult of Emil i Lönneberga, the roof of Karlsson-on-the-Roof. You can visit Ronia the Robber’s Daughter, the Six Bullerby Children, the Brothers Lionheart and many more.
The theme park was opened in 1981 and attracts many visitors every summer. Within the park you’ll also find a shop, restaurants and coffee bars – but you can also simply have a picnic. The entrance fee is pretty high but if you stay a whole day it is definitely worth it. On stage the scenes are only played in Swedish – but that is no problem if you know the books. What rather was a problem is that there is no sun protection in front of the stages.
