The Gartenschau Kaiserslautern was opened in the year 2000 and formed – together with the Japanese garden – the first garden exhibition of the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatine. The grounds of a quarry, a spinning mill and a slaughterhouse in Kaiserslautern, Germany were transformed into a nice garden which is today an important park.
After the garden show ended different elements were added: a miniature golf area, a soccer ground and a skating place. There is also a beergarden and on top of a hill a church made of willows. Throughout the park you‘ll find dinosaurs in correct size – some people say that this fits well for a city that has already seen its best days.
Additional exhibitions at the Gartenschau area
Within the park there is also a LEGO exhibition by a private association and a LEGO store. The park is now maintained by the Lebenshilfe and impaired people work here. When we visited the park there were also large figures (about the theme ‚flying‘) made of pumpkins. It was somehow a strange assembly of items – but still it was nice to have a walk there. Parking lots are available in front of the entrance.
