Tourists seem to come to Granada, Spain for only one very big attraction: the Alhambra and its palaces, fortifications and gardens. And this is indeed a very good reason, but Granada is much more than this. It is a lovely Spanish city with an Arab touch that is especially inviting for night-time activities.
A good starting point for a visit is the Plaza Bib-Ramla with its hustle and bustle nearly all around the clock. Close to it the cathedral – with the graves of the two Catholic kings Isabella I and Ferdinand II – and the silk market are located. When continuing to the east the wonderful quarter Albaicín starts. The oldest city quarter of Granada, directly under the Alhamba with wonderful white chalked buildings and typical Arab compounds.
When walking through the Albaicín it is worth hiking up to the Mirador San Nicolás because it offers unhindered views on the palaces and fortifications. Continuing further on to the east you’ll reach Sacromonte, a place where people (nowadays mostly artists) live in caves. The place for the best Flamenco shows in town.
