King Charles V. of Spain planned to make Granada the seat of government. Therefore he made minor and major changes to the Alhambra. Within some parts of the Nasrid palaces you can find his slogan “plus ultra” (“further beyond”) decorating the walls. He also tore some parts of the palaces down and errected the round shaped Palacio de Carlos V. – but his original plan was never finished because political goals changed.
The palace is accessible without a ticket and it contains two museums: The Museo de la Alhambra where you can learn more about the history of these buildings and the Museo des Bellas Artes which exhibits mainly paintings; even some of José María Rodríguez-Acosta – whose living place and gardens you can visit near-by. When you need to wait for your time slot for entering the Nasrid palaces stopping by here is a good idea.
