Armageddon

The Bible tells about a final fight between the forces of evil and the armies of God: “Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army” (Revelation 19:19). “Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon” (Revelation 16:16) – and this place is in Christian belief the town of Megiddo.

Today Megiddo is an archeological site situated on a hill which has a really good strategical position. You immediatly understand why during the centuries people always settled at this place located close to an important trading route. The oldest remains date back to the Neolithic erea (seven thousand years BCE). You can discover religious places and old grain silos.

When you arrive at Megiddo you have to drive up a hill and park your car at a visitor center. An introduction is given by a movie and then you can take an audio guide for discovering that place. As Megiddo was often besieged the citizens digged down and built a tunnel to an underground well. The exit is throughout this tunnel and you can walk back from there to the visitor center.
