Gion

Gion is the oldest district in the city center of Kyōto, Japan. It dates back to the Middle Ages and is nowadays partially preserved as a national monument. The area consists of narrow streets and wooden houses.

You can find many restaurants and tea houses in this part of the city. It is home to the geishas (artists) which call themselves geikos (women of art). At was also the setting for Arthur Goldens Memoirs of a geisha.
