The Louvre

The Musée du Louvre in Paris, France is the third biggest and most-visited museum in the world. It is located in the Palais du Louvre and the entrance is underneath a well-known glass pyramid. 10 million people get to this former seat of the French kings each year.

The first items in the collection have been added from the 14th century on but it was first accessible to the public after the French revolution in 1793. It contains statues like the Nike of Samothrace from 190 BCE, the Venus de Milo or Amor and Psyche from Antonio Canova.

You can ofcourse find the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, but also Le Tricheur à l’as de carreau by Georges de La Tour and La Liberté guidant le peuple by Eugène Delacroix. The collection is really vast and contains also for example Islamic art. It is quite impossible to see all items with one visit.
