If you’re looking for modern art at Bologna, make sure to visit the former industrial zone southwest of Bolognas main railway station: former industry buildings like a tobacco factory, a paper mill and a salt storage have been re-purposed. The bread factory is now inhabited by the Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna – or short: MAMbo. Large rooms with high ceilings offer the perfect setting to present contemporary Italian art.
The MAMbo was originally part of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna but had to be split out in the 1990s as the collection was growing beyond the space available. In its current location the Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna opened its doors in 2007. Don’t miss the former harbor behind the building, it was the reason why so many industrial buildings have been created in this area. The MAMbo is really easy to access with Bologna Centrale just 800 meters afar.
