The amusement park of Helsinki is called Linnanmäki and has been opened in 1950 by a foundation (the Children’s Day Foundation) that collects money for child welfare work. So with every rollercoaster ride you do, you’re doing something good! Linnanmäki consists of around fifty rides, including eight rollercoasters, a panoramic free-fall tower and lots of restaurants.
While in Germany amusement parks request an entrance fee, access to Linnanmäki is free of charge. You can just walk around, enjoy the atmosphere and have something to eat if you don’t desire to produce some adrenaline. If you want to do some rides you can get a one ride ticket or a six ride package – but most people simply buy a wristband (which costs as much a six rides) and is valid for the whole day. There is also a wristband for the last three hours of the day which is a bit cheaper.
Linnanmäki is located in the Alppila quarter north of the city center. You can reach the amusement park with tramway 3 from the main railway station of Helsinki, take the stop named Linnanmäki to exit. Or if you want a longer walk: the railway tracks guide you also from the city center to the park. If you want to enhance the fun: the Sea Life aquarium is directly next to it.
