Cyprus museum

The Cyprus museum in Λευκωσία is very old-fashioned. You can’t learn much about the Cypriot history, it is rather an archaeologic museum exhibiting statues and ancient jars. It was founded in 1882 and is an important institution as it preserves the ancient findings from the island.

Most important item is the Idol of Pomos, a sculpture and fertility symbol which is 5,000 years old. Today it can be also seen on the 1 and 2 Euro coins from Cyprus. Although the museum wasn’t that fascinating to me it was good to visit this area: The museum is outside the ancient city center and close to the Paphos gate where the old city fortification meets the modern no-man’s-land.
