The Fernsehturm of Berlin, Germany is visible from nearly everywhere in the city. And if you want you can get easily by elevator into the giant ball in the sky and watch the German capital from up above. Until today I didn’t meet too many locals or foreigners that went up – but now we tried this experience.
If you get into the basement of the tower you might find long queues in front of the ticket counter as the capacities are limited. You can buy tickets at a desk, at vending machines or online. For peak times they have a system where you receive a timeslot for your way up. When we were there we could immediately go to the elevator.
The reason that not so many people I now have been there might be the price: for an adult it costs more than 15 euros to get to the observation deck. You can also get a table at the restaurant but that costs even more. Before entering the elevator there is a security check and then you are brought very fast to the observation deck. The roof of the elevator is partially made of glass – that is part of the fun.
On the observation deck you can walk around and under the windows you’ll find images explaining what can be seen. You can watch pretty far on a good day! On this level you’ll also find restrooms and a small bar. The restaurant is one level up. I would say that getting up there is a thing once to be done in a lifetime – but a second time is not necessary.
