Bad Harzburg is a small town within the Harz mountain range in northern Germany. It is a spa town, offers a casino and you can go by teleferic to the castle mountain above. Since 2015 it has another attraction – the “Baumwipfelpfad“; you can take a one kilometer long walk throughout the treetops of a forest.
After getting tickets you can cross the main road and walk towards a spiral that leads you up to the path; 20 meters above ground. Different stations give you information about the forest and its inhabitants in different ways. At the end of the path you can decide to walk it back or to walk underneath in the forest, discovering further exhibits.
You can also combine the path with a visit to the castle mountain. The hiking path going down ends directly at the rear entrance of the treetop path. It is possible to visit the path with buggies and wheelchairs, as it is almost completely barrier-free. I guess, best time to visit this place is late spring or autumn, when the leaves on the trees are most wonderful.
