Home to the German Order

Located 60 km southeast of Gdańsk, Poland you will find Malbork (Marienburg) close to the river Nogat. Its prime feature is Malbork Castle, a fortification built by the knights of the German Order in the 13th century. It is constructed in Brick Gothic style, normally common in northern Germany.

When the German Order (Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem) returned unsuccessfully from the crusades in the Holy Land they settled in Pomerania, Prussia and used Malbork Castle as their domicile. The castle has been rebuilt and enlarged different times since then.

You can park your car on the west shore of river Nogat and then walk over Most Imienia Świętego Wojciecha to the castle. Simply stroll around the impressive castle and enjoy the unique building. The church within has not been renovated but displays the aftermath of World War II. Malbork Castle is World Heritage site of UNESCO since 1997.
