We didn’t play crazy golf (or miniature golf) too often when I was young – mostly when we were somewhere on vacation; but I remember it as a funny thing. During the years the game became less “en vogue” but now there is a trend that makes it more interesting: black light crazy golf.
I’ve seen this already in other cities but only right now I had the chance to try it at NeonGolf in the city center of Hannover, Germany. The rooms are dark and only lit by black light. The walls, the floor and the tracks are painted and reflect this light. They seem to glow in neon colors.
In addition you get glasses that split the light by using a prism and therefore you have the feeling that they are on different levels. There are 18 tracks in three rooms with different topics: the first is under water, the second is a jungle with beautiful animals and in the third you leave the earth and visit outer space.
Results are tracked on a smartphone you receive at the reception. There is a bar and a nice waiting room and you can take your drinks with you while you’re playing. It is a good idea to book a time slot in advance as (especially on weekends) this place is pretty crowded. It just opened in 2018.
Even though I didn’t wear the glasses most of the time and missed the 3D effects the painting of the room is fantastic and creates a great atmosphere. We needed about an hour to play the game – but we where only two persons. Typically you will need 90 minutes if you get there with a group of people.
