If you’re looking for a place where you can have a barbecue with family, friends or an organization, every village seems to have a location for that – often maintained honorary by the local community. One of the nicest places I’ve seen is located in the remote village Speele, belonging to Staufenberg, Germany. You can reach it by car on the one and only road connecting this place to the outside world or by regional train from Kassel or Eichenberg.
Reaching the barbecue place by car feels like a scavenger hunt – but there are many signs guiding you. Just enter “Vor dem Siegen 12” into your navigation system, but beware: There is only a parking lot for four cars in front. In the neighbouring streets you’ll for sure find a place. After crossing the small flow “Siegen” you have to climb up a little hill and then you have reached your destination.
They have an old coalmakers hut where you can sit inside and make a fire, toilets, a barbecue building, an open fire place and another wooden building. Well equipped and enough place for 40 people. We came here for the final ceremony of kindergarten and had a great time. You can rent this place for a small fee of 25 € from the local firefighters (Freiwillige Feuerwehr Speele).
