The story of Anne Frank, her hiding, deportation and of course her diary are well-known to the world. That is why everybody visiting Amsterdam, the Netherlands wants to visit that special place at the Prinsengracht where here family managed to hide for a longer time.
The building itself is nowadays a very streamlined museum. You enter it and follow a well-defined path without the opportunity to stop longer or to return. You can see the original rooms and the door hiding them; you can understand to some extent how it would be to hide there to survive.
There are some texts, different video installations and the original version of Annes diary. But I had the feeling that I learned less than in comparable historic places. In the end it is a location you’ll have to see once; and also accept the sometimes long queues in front of the building.
