The Lago Villarrica is a very big lake in Chile. It is 23 kilometers long and offers fantastic views on the still active volcano Villarrica. It has destroyed this region more than once during the time of human civilization and there are big signs along the road explaining what to do in case of an emergency.
The two mayor towns around the lake are Villarrica and Pucón, both rather touristic places in southern Chile. Villarrica offers some shops and restaurants; you should at least stop at the car park close to the shore to enjoy the rather untypical water’s edge. Pucón is mostly a place for sports and tourism – but it also offers a nice harbour where you can sit down and relax. It is a bit calm there in off-season.
