I always love to see cities from above. That’s why I climb church towers or get to mountains close to the city. In Santiago de Chile I was a bit disappointed because of the smog hanging over the city – there wasn’t much to see. But visiting the Cerro San Cristóbal in the city quarter Bellavista (a good joke) is still a good idea.
The best way is to go by metro to the station Baquedano and then walk through the street Pio Nono towards the mountain. It’s the area close to the university with a very good nightlife; with lots of bars and restaurants. At the end of the road there is the entrance to the Chilean National Zoo and the station of the cable car bringing you up the mountain. On top you’ll find a coffee bar and souvenir shop and a 22 meters high white statue of Virgin Mary (Virgen Cerro San Cristobal).
