Once again in Dorf Tirol

What to do in summer time? For my parents the answer was quite easy: they went with us every year to the same flat in the same building (“Haus Windisch“) in Dorf Tirol, Italy. For them it was a great idea because they knew this place well and nearly everybody speaks German – and we didn’t care for seeing other parts of the world.

There are only 2500 inhabitants in this small village above Merano. The history of this place – called Tirolo in Italian – is connected to the Castel Tirolo, a former seat of the nobility. We enjoyed long walks along the canals that were build to bring water to the wine plants, walked the Tappeiner promenade down to Merano and took the chairlift back up.

I can still remember the minigolf course and the Eisdiele Sabine, as well as the small shops in the city center where we bought souvenirs. It was fun every year! And later I learned that we were not the only ones coming here frequently: a good friend of mine had his vacations here, too. Maybe we even met at the ice cream parlor without knowing each other yet.
