The Jardin de Plantes de Paris, France is a botanical garden in the center of the city. It always reminds me of Rainer Maria Rilkes poem The Panther – subtitled “in the Jardin de Plantes de Paris“. It is a nice place to hang out in the busy city.
The garden was created in 1626 and covers 23 hectares. It belongs to the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle and includes the only zoo in the city center – the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes. As a result of the French revolution those privately held animals had to be brought here.
