The church Santa Maria Maggiore in Roma, Italy is one of the four cathedrals of Roma and belongs to the Civitas Vaticana – even though it is not located on its grounds. It dates back to the 5th century CE.
It is said that a trader has seen Maria who promised him the birth of a child if he builds a church on the spot where snow is falling the next day. That is why the church is also called Santa Maria ad Nives.
