Lake Louise

For many people they are key reasons to travel to the Canadian Rocky Mountains: Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are two of the most iconic and breathtaking destinations in Banff National Park, drawing visitors from around the world with their turquoise waters, dramatic mountain backdrops, and pristine alpine settings. Lake Louise, known as the ‘Jewel of the Rockies‘, is famous for its stunning color, which comes from glacial silt, as well as for the luxurious Fairmont Château Lake Louise that sits along its shoreline.

Popular activities at Lake Louise include canoeing, hiking, and exploring trails like the Lake Agnes Tea House Trail. Just a short drive away, Moraine Lake is equally spectacular, nestled in the Valley of the Ten Peaks with a more rugged and remote feel. Visitors often hike to the Rockpile Trail for the best vantage point of the lake’s stunning blue waters, especially at sunrise when the peaks are bathed in golden light.

Due to high demand and limited parking, Parks Canada operates a shuttle system to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, ensuring visitors can access these stunning locations without the stress of finding parking. Private vehicles are no longer allowed at Moraine Lake, and parking at Lake Louise fills up quickly, making the shuttle the best way to visit both lakes.

The shuttle service runs from the Lake Louise Ski Resort Park and Ride and must be reserved in advance through the Parks Canada website. There are also commercial tour options which is great as the official shuttles are often completely booked very fast. The shuttle system helps protect these fragile environments while ensuring visitors can enjoy the majestic beauty of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake in a sustainable way.
