Tonquin Inn

Jasper is a nice little city in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and it is mostly lined up at the main road, the Connaught Drive which is located in parallel to the massively used railway tracks (I’ve seldomly seen such long trains) and the Yellowhead Highway. At the northern end of Jasper you’ll find the Tonquin Inn which was my very first North-American style motel: with two levels and parking directly in front of your room door. It is a bit old-fashioned but it was a very pleasant stay with everything available in the close-by city center.

From the Tonquin Inn it is a convenient ten minutes walk to a large groceries store and many different restaurants. Don’t miss the Jasper Brewing Company providing great locally produced beer, but I also enjoyed the Jasper Pizza Place very much. If you’re in dire need for a breakfast: not far away from Tonquin Inn there is Starbucks that is opening early in the morning (the restaurant next to the Tonquin Inn wasn’t so good). Parking in front of the hotel is served on a first-come first-served basis so you might not always park in front of your room – but I nevertheless had the pleasure to have a room on the reverse side looking on a green space and having the hot tubs directly in front of my room door.

Two weeks after my stay at Jasper a massive wildfire burned parts of the city and a lot of the forest surrounding it. Hopefully everyone is okay and this beautiful city is rebuilt soon.
