Driving from Mount Robson to Jasper is a spectacular journey through the heart of the Canadian Rockies, offering breathtaking views of towering peaks, alpine meadows, and glacial rivers. As you travel east along Highway 16 (Yellowhead Highway), you leave Mount Robson Provincial Park in British Columbia and enter Jasper National Park in Alberta, officially crossing the provincial border. This transition is more than just a geographic change—it also marks a shift in time zones, as you move from Pacific Time (PT) to Mountain Time (MT), losing one hour.
I had never crossed a time zone border by car or on foot before, to me that usually happens only on planes. But in this case I could observe the clock of the car as well as my watch and smartphone just adjust themselves and jump one hour further. The highway itself is nice and winds through dramatic landscapes, often providing opportunities to spot wildlife such as elk, black bears, and bighorn sheep along the roadside. With Mount Robson fading in the rearview mirror and Jasper’s stunning wilderness unfolding ahead, this drive is not only a passage between provinces but also a journey through some of Canada’s most awe-inspiring natural scenery.
