Mystic Beach

A beautiful secluded beach at the end of the world, with a waterfall, caves and a swing – that is Mystic Beach on the southwestern coast of Vancouver Island. Getting there is exhausting and an adventure, as you can reach the beach only on foot passing over wooden walkways, a rope bridge and many stairs, but it is absolutely worth the pain. I was recommended to go there by the employees of my hotel at Vancouver and it was definitely a good choice.

You can find the parking area for Mystic Beach close to the West Coast Road also named British Columbia Highway 14 between Sooke and Port Renfrew. From there the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail takes you on a two kilometers long hike through beautiful nature with lots of fern to the coast. The forest is beautiful and the wooden path is well prepared, but the intensive ups and downs can be tiring on hot days.

Don’t be afraid of the bears living in the area: the trail is typically frequented much as this is no secret hint. I always had hikers in front and behind me; what I would normally find annoying was quite calming in this case as I was unable to purchase bear spray prior to the hike. While walking to Mystic Beach I didn’t see a single one.
