Largest aviary

Birds of Eden at Plettenberg Bay is one of the world’s largest free-flight aviaries, offering visitors an immersive experience in the heart of South Africa’s Garden Route. Nestled within a lush forest, this sanctuary is home to over 200 species of birds from around the globe, including exotic tropical birds, endemic African species, and rare, endangered birds like the Victoria Crowned Pigeon and the African Grey Parrot. The aviary covers a vast area, allowing the birds to fly freely, interact with each other, and display their natural behaviors.

Visitors can stroll along well-maintained walkways, surrounded by water features and native plants, while enjoying up-close views of colorful and diverse avian species. Birds of Eden is dedicated to conservation and rehabilitation, providing a safe haven for rescued and rehabilitated birds, and offers a unique opportunity for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts to learn about the importance of protecting these remarkable creatures. Birds of Eden is directly opposite to Monkeyland; they also share a parking area and there is a combined ticket. Don’t be frustrated if you walk down in the beginning and see hardly any birds: they are most often on the opposite side in the higher regions of the aviary.
