When you climb up to the Kirchberg mountain or pass the bridge from the city center you’ll find the Fort Thüngen (or Draï Eechelen, Trois Glands). It is part of the extensive fortification system of the city of Luxembourg. The ancient fortress with its special structure would already be worth a visit, but within the old walls you can also find the Musée Dräi Eechelen.
The fortification dates back to the year 1732, the museum opened in 2012 and explains the history of Luxembourg. What I especially enjoyed where the many historical paintings of the city and the maps showing Lëtzebuerg from different directions. With that you can understand how the city evolved, why there were so many protective walls and towers and why they’ve been mostly torn down.
