Bürgerweide

The Bürgerweide is a large area next to the main railway station of Bremen, Germany. It was once what its name says: a meadow (‘Weide‘) where citizens (‘Bürger‘) could place two to four cows. It is today especially famous for the fun fair Bremer Freimarkt located here every year.

The area is also used as a giant car park for the neighboring fair and exhibition center and for flee markets and concerts. We came here this time for a fantastic concert of Die Toten Hosen (supported by The Subways and The King Blues). The drawbacks of the Bürgerweide are that there are no trees/no shadows and that you’re always standing on concrete. But it was a very pleasurable evening and we enjoyed having the shortest possible way to bed as we booked a room in the neighboring prizeotel.
