I wasn’t able to go further on into Tuscany and therefore decided to at least visit the city of Lucca, Italy. I parked my car at the railway station, crossed the old fortifications and walked into the city center, without orientation or a specific target destination; I simply enjoyed the special atmosphere.
Lucca is a small city with 90000 inhabitants and was a rich city in the 13th and 14th century because of the production of textiles. Beautiful churches and large squares document this former richness. Most impressive are the cathedral San Martino and the church San Michele in Foro, located at the Piazza San Michele.
