The Castelvecchio is a fortress of the Scaliger in Verona, Italy. It was built from 1354 on and is located outside the city center at the river Adige. Attached to it there is the Ponte Scaligero allowing the residents to flee over the Adige in case of danger.
The bridge was destroyed in 1945 by German forces and was rebuilt from 1954 on. Castelvecchio today contains an art museum showing art of the region (including some of Tintoretto and Tiepolo). In 2015 paintings with a value of 15 million Euros were stolen from museum and never appeared again.
