The international airport of Malta in Luqa is the only one on the island. It is located 5 kilometers southwest of Valletta, the capital city. It has two runways and transports 5 million persons per year.
The first airports on the island were military ones because of the strategic location. From 1920 also civilian flights started. The airport in Luqa was opened for non-military use in 1958. Planes of Lufthansa are overhauled here.
The car rental zone is on the first floor of a multi-storey car park on the right hand side when you leave the airport building (car park east).
