The South African Airforce Museum, located in Gqeberha, offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the South African Air Force (SAAF) and its contributions to aviation and military history. The museum showcases a diverse collection of historic aircraft, including fighter jets, helicopters, and transport planes, many of which have been in active service during key moments in the country’s history.

Exhibits also highlight the evolution of aviation technology and the role of the SAAF in various conflicts, peacekeeping missions, and humanitarian efforts. Visitors can explore a range of aircraft displays, military artifacts, and interactive exhibits, gaining insight into the lives of the men and women who have served in the air force. The museum’s focus on both aviation history and the SAAF’s broader role makes it an educational and engaging experience for aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, and families alike.

The South African Airforce Museum is maintained and operated by volunteers in a small building on the other side of the Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airports airfield. For many tourists it is a safe last stop prior to getting on a plane. You can enjoy views on the airport or have a picnic in front of the museum.
