She is one of the Maltese national treasures: the sleeping lady. The statue was found at the hypogeum of Ħal Saflieni, a neolithic necropolis. It is rather small but more than 4500 years old and seen as the representation of a goddess. Today you can’t visit her at the hypogeum which is nowadays a UNESCO world heritage site (and tickets are extremely hard to get), you can see her at the national museum of archaeology.
This museum is located in the main pedestrian zone of Valletta, the Triq Ir-Repubblika. It is an old-school museum especially showing remains of the neolithic period, the so called temple period, the bronze age and the Phoenician times. You can also visit an interesting numismatic collection and learn about the mysterious cart-ruts which can be found on the island: long and straight cuts in the rocks. Maybe they were caused by carts or as water channels; nobody knows.
